Progress Monitoring for Accelerating Learning: Considerations & Recommendations for Selecting Academic Measures

With all students likely having experienced some degree of learning loss due to school closures this spring, progress monitoring will be more important than ever to ensure Tier 1 instruction is closing gaps and that Tier 2 and 3 interventions are getting results quickly.

There are two common measures for progress monitoring: Curriculum-Based Measures (CBM) and Computer-Adaptive Tests (CAT). But only one meets all of the criteria for effective progress monitoring and is backed by strong efficacy research.

Read our whitepaper to learn more about the importance of progress monitoring and selecting the most reliable measure for tracking student growth. Inside we:

  • Explain the purpose and use of progress monitoring
  • Review the five core criteria for effective progress monitoring
  • Describe CBM and CAT in detail
  • Compare research around using both for progress monitoring
