FAST™ offers tailored reading intervention activities that target phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to help move struggling students closer to grade-level literacy goals. Designed for class-wide and small-group interventions at Tier 1 and Tier 2, each activity is research-based and aligned with FAST assessments and K-5 ELA Common Core State Standards.
Interventions Tuned for FAST™
Every intervention has a series of eight lessons to build an understanding of each activity and when teachers should use the intervention for which students. The instruction procedures outline how to prepare materials, explain the intervention activity to students, model the activity and provide guided practice, group practice, and applied practice.
The Blending and Segmenting Sounds intervention activities helps students build phonological awareness and readiness for decoding.
Picture Card Sort, Letter-Sound Bingo, Word Boxes, and Word Mix-Up lessons build students’ ability to decode and read individual words.
Help students who read accurately, but haltingly, become fluent using Sight Word Bingo, Listening Passage Preview with Phrase Drill, Repeated Reading with Partner, and Sight Word Flashcards.
Build a stronger base of vocabulary knowledge to support reading with activities such as Pre-Teaching Vocabulary, Vocabulary Word Cards, Vocabulary Teaching in Text, Antonyms, Synonyms, and Affixes.
Students who read fluently and have strong vocabulary skills but struggle to understand what they read will benefit from Repeated Reading with Comprehension, and Word Comprehension activities.
